Before his current advisory work, he served at the Federal Inland Revenue Service, now the Nigeria Revenue Service, as Coordinating Director, Government and Medium Taxpayers Group, where he provided strategic oversight for medium taxpayers nationwide and government business involving Federal, State, and Local Government MDAs. During his career at the Service, he also held leadership positions across enforcement, compliance, technical administration, and executive support, and contributed to major tax reform work, including the 2004 reform process that led to the FIRS Establishment Act of 2007.
Dr. Irri is an accountant by training, an accomplished author, and a Fellow of ICAN, CITN, ANAN, FICMC, and the Chartered Institute of Forensic and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria. He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from Nasarawa State University and completed the Senior Executive Fellows Program at Harvard in 2024. He is also the Founder and Chief Impact Officer of the Ode-Irri Foundation.
